So…Hi.
Um…hey. This is…well, this is awkward. How’s it going, how have you been? Is that a new shirt? It looks nice. It looks–you look good. You lost weight, I bet. Put on weight? Whatever, you wear it well. I hope life is treating you well.
Here’s what I’ve been up to since we last spoke (or I last typed at you), I totally failed at National Novel Writing Month, per my own prediction. Perhaps I sabotaged myself and felt the need to live up to my own lack of belief. More than likely though, it’s because I’ve actually been able to kind of become a freelance writer. Like, for real for real.
I’ve been regularly contributing to Mac|Life Magazine‘s web content, specifically focusing on iOS apps and games. I’ve done a handful of galleries and reviews (look at my portfolio page to see them all) and will continue to do so in the future, only more so. I’ll share more once it’s an official thing.
I’ve also had a piece published in Salon that I’d rather not talk to you about (seriously, leave me alone internet. I don’t want to talk about it). It was a political piece and while I do enjoy writing about politics, I don’t enjoy trying to respond to 250 comments calling me an idiot with no real wish to actually talk about it. The one guy that emailed me about it I was able to have an actual conversation with and disarm the anger a little. Same with twitter, where one woman dedicated an entire blog post to how I’m a misogynist. I’m linking to it because it’s hilarious and also because I like to experience the pain again. Plus I kind of like that a feminist called me “mister.” Is that weird?
There’s other stuff that I should probably mention but I can’t think of it right now. I’m pitching stuff like crazy and I’ll hopefully be contributing to a few other places (and then a lot of other places) soon. In the mean time, it’s a lot of Mac|Life and getting back in touch with some fiction writing.
I’m picking back up on my aforementioned failed NaNoWriMo story. It used to be available in the “NaNoWriMo” tab on this site, but it will now be known as “Blogvel” which is a combination of “blog” and “novel,” as it is a novel on my blog. I know, I know; I’m unabashedly clever. That’s what I’m a writer. So check that out for occasional updates. Thanks to my dear friend for the motivation to get back into it thanks to picking up her own piece of writing recently that I desperately hope she continues to pursue.
In the mean time, I’ll be attempting to clean up the comment section of this blog so it’s not a bunch of shitty advertisements, busting out the ban-hammer and smacking down the spam accounts that keep signing up, and potentially revamping some other stuff because this site has been the same since I started it and I get bored of it when I look at it (which has been rare recently).
Here’s to getting back on track.
